This one is for those friends who stand by your side through the thick and thin, through boyfriends, girlfriends, new jobs, horrible bosses, cross country moves, and that phase where you only wore purple lipstick and blue glitter eyeshadow. Besties.

ONE: There are so many ornaments out there, but I personally like to collect ones that hold a special memory for me each time I pull it out of the storage box to hang on the tree. That’s where our personalized hand-lettered ornaments come in. Choose your own witty design like “Drank Too Much Wine, 2019” or commemorate a big event in their life for 2019. Available in a variety of colors, choose from classic glass bulbs to modern acrylic discs.

Available at www.thescribblist.etsy.com; from $12.

TWO: I first discovered Graphic Anthology at the Portland Night Market – we were booth neighbors! Founder and Creative Director, Genesis, is one of those amazing people you can instantly connect with so it’s no wonder that her products do the same! She has a wide assortment of funny and gorgeous greeting cards, but when it comes to gift giving, I’m all about her notepads and planners! From meal planning to weekly to do’s, she’s got something for everyone. My favorite this season is the Modern Floral Daily Notepad ($12). Pair it with a set of her imprinted pencils like the Feminist black and gold set ($9) and one of her bright and bold greeting cards and you’re all set!

THREE: I know, there are a lot of great planters out there BUT are any of them as cute as these? Nope! The Arty Narwhal offers adorable hand painted terra cotta pots of various sizes with the most lovely hand painted designs. My personal favorite is the mini planter with the little avocado guy! I have purchased these for my friends and they always arrive even more darling than I expected! Add a mini succulent and bam! You’ve got a thoughtful, sweet gift that will remind your bestie of you every day even if you’re a thousand miles away. Bonus: Customizations are available!

Available via www.etsy.com/shop/theartynarwhal, from $17.00.

FOUR: Is it practical? Nope! But it sure is fun! This one is a splurge but oh is it worth it. Frankie & Jo’s is an incredible plant based ice cream company from Seattle, Washington. They’ve got killer style to go along with their drool-worthy ice cream flavors like Chocolate Tahini Supercookie, Gingered Golden Milk and their signature Salty Caramel Ash (it’s black!). As a member of the Pint Club, you’ll receive a monthly delivery of three seasonal pints and one of their everyday flavors to pair. Choose between 2, 4 or 6 month memberships.

Available at www.frankieandjos.com; from $100 for 2 months

FIVE: I first encountered these unique ceramic bead necklaces by The Pursuits of Happiness at a local shop in Seattle, WA. They are simple, but make a statement and the colors are so spot on. These artist-made, small batch pieces originated in Seattle, but the maker’s studio is now located just outside of Portland, OR. I’m a big fan of the mixed shapes in the featured necklace, but love their classic tube beads and the DIY kits as well! Sure to stay in her collection forever, this artisan piece of jewelry is timeless and so-on-trend all at once.

Available at www.thepursuitsofhappiness.com; from $60.

There you have it! Five unique gift ideas that also support small and local businesses. Happy shopping!
